Pinterest keeps an animated pin in more than one form, and which one you get decides whether it still moves.

The animated original
This is what the link points at when Pinterest published one. It is the file the pinner uploaded, not a re-encode.
An MP4 instead
Some animated pins are stored only as video. You still get movement, in a file most editors and phones prefer, but it is not a GIF and the page says so.
What you avoid
A right-click, a screenshot or a screen recording. The first two lose the animation entirely; the third re-encodes it and loses quality.

Where this stops

It reads one pin at a time and only publicly visible ones. A secret board, a pin you can only see while signed in, or a whole board in one run are all outside what this page does.

Questions about animated pins

  • Why does right-clicking give me a still image?

    Because the feed shows animated pins as a poster frame, and that frame is what your browser hands you. The moving file sits at a different address, which is the one this tool resolves.

  • I got an MP4 rather than a GIF. Is that wrong?

    No, that is what Pinterest stored for that pin. Plenty of animated pins exist only as video there. The result tells you which one you are getting before you save it.

  • Does the animation lose quality?

    Nothing is re-encoded. The file that reaches you is the file Pinterest published, so it is exactly as good, or as limited, as what the pinner uploaded.

  • Can I get every GIF on a board at once?
